SIGVARIS COMPRESSION THERAPY:
Ingleside Pharmasave and Long Sault Pharmasave have a wide variety of SIGVARIS “compression therapy” options to suit your needs.
What is “graduated compression therapy?”
Graduated compression therapy involves the application of an elastic garment around a limb(s) such as the legs. For the legs, one option is a “graduated compression stocking.” The elastic graduated compression stocking has pressure that is highest at the ankle and gradually decreases going up the leg. This pressure difference helps to improve venous return, decrease venous pressure, prevent venous stasis, reduce the deterioration of venous walls, and efficiently relieve aching and heavy legs by assisting the body in moving blood up the leg against gravity.
What conditions is “compression therapy” used to treat?
Compression therapy can be used to treat many venous conditions such as lymphedema, phlebitis, and thrombosis. It can also be prescribed to prevent venous issues during pregnancy and long distance travel. If no contraindications are present, then you may safely buy ‘lower pressure’ compression stockings without a prescription.
Medical compression therapy can be applied with different products such as socks, stockings, tights or bandages. The type of product that is used is dependent on the condition that is being treated.
How do I determine if compression therapy is right for me?
We recommend that you speak with your physician first, before deciding if compression therapy is right for you. Your physician can help determine your underlying condition and the correct treatment for you. There are some conditions where compression therapy may not be appropriate.
I have a prescription for compression therapy from my physician. What do I do now?
Feel free to come visit us at either of our locations to speak with one of our “Certified SIGVARIS Fitters.” Our fitters are certified to assist you in selecting the appropriate product and size based on the measurement of the affected limb(s) as well as your particular situation and condition.
I don’t have a prescription for compression therapy but I feel that I may benefit from a compression product. Can I purchase compression products without a prescription?
You can buy ‘lower pressure’ compression stockings without a prescription. However, to be safe, we advise that you speak with your physician first, because compression therapy can be harmful for individuals with certain medical conditions.
